Will Greg Abbott be Man Enough to Appear with Trump and Fight for Texas Communities?

DALLAS, TX – Career politician Greg Abbott is facing an important test this week as Donald Trump prepares to campaign in Texas again: will he be man enough to show up and use the opportunity to fight for what Texas communities deserve?

Trump is scheduled to appear in Corpus Christi and Lubbock on Tuesday, just days after FEMA denied Texas’s request for federal disaster assistance following devastating flooding in July as survivors plead for help.

Trump’s visit also comes as his administration asks the U.S. Supreme Court to lift a federal judge’s order blocking the construction of a border wall through the Big Bend region of West Texas.

Greg Abbott has spent years bragging about his relationship with Trump and never once hesitated to implement Trump’s agenda in Texas, including immigration enforcement and mid-decade redistricting.

But now that Texans are counting on their governor to use that relationship to help them, will Greg Abbott show up and fight – or will he manufacture another scheduling conflict like he did the last time Trump was in town?

“Greg Abbott has never been shy about his admiration and affection for Donald Trump. But now there are serious issues on the line as Texans struggle to recover from devastating flooding and fight to preserve public land for future generations. They deserve a governor who will put their political concerns aside and show up to demand action from the president. That’s the opportunity facing Greg Abbott this week. The question is what Greg Abbott will Texas get? The one who runs and hides because he knows Trump is dragging down the Republican ticket everywhere or the one who finally finds some courage to put them first?” said Texas Democratic Party Spokesman Jacob Long.
