Trump's War Continues To Drive Up Energy Costs, And Texas Republicans Keep Backing Him

DALLAS, TX —Texas families are already feeling the squeeze from the rising cost of living. Now, Donald Trump’s war with Iran is putting even more pressure on oil and fuel prices, and Texas Republicans who have backed Trump’s actions need to answer for what that means for families across our state.

The U.S. Energy Information Administration reports that global oil prices remain elevated as the conflict continues to disrupt energy markets, while tight global diesel supplies are contributing to higher prices. Here in Texas, families are already paying more to keep their homes running. The average residential electricity price in Texas reached 15.88 cents per kilowatt-hour in July 2026, compared with 15.46 cents a year earlier.

Meanwhile, Texans are paying at the pump while the cost of transporting food and other necessities rises along with fuel prices. Texas Republicans have chosen to stand with Trump. Now they need to explain to Texas families why they should have to pay more for the consequences of that choice.

In response, Texas Democratic Party Executive Director Terri Burke released the following statement:

“Texas families are already struggling to keep up with the cost of living, and Donald Trump’s war with Iran is making that harder. Gas is more expensive. Electricity is more expensive. And when the cost of energy goes up, it doesn't stop at the gas pump, it shows up in the price of groceries, transportation and just about everything else.

And where are Texas Republicans? (Oh, oops Greg Abbott avoided him Wednesday in San Antonio: he didn’t appear with him but he didn’t criticize his policies either.) Standing with Donald Trump and defending his war while Texas families are the ones left paying the bill. Texans deserve leaders who are focused on making life more affordable, not politicians who blindly follow Donald Trump into another costly war and expect working families to absorb the consequences”.
