Trump Insults Texans Worried about Data Centers as Greg Abbott Stays Silent

DALLAS, TX – Career politician Greg Abbott continues to show Texans exactly whose side he is on – and it’s not theirs.

In a new interview with TIME magazine, Donald Trump doubled down on his criticisms of the vast majority of Americans who oppose data centers, saying “...if you want to be poor, you want to have no money, if you don’t want to have a job, and if you want to live in a crime-infested area, squalor, all the things that go along with it, you should not have a data center.”

In other words, Trump is talking about all the Texans who’ve raised concerns about data centers flooding their communities after Greg Abbott gave them some of the largest tax breaks in the nation and took $20 million from data center special interests, vowing less than a year ago to make Texas the “AI epicenter”.

You’d think Abbott, who abruptly flip-flopped on data centers amid his toughest reelection ever, might have something to say about the president insulting the very Texans he now claims to be protecting.

But instead, Abbott’s refused to push back as Trump comes to Texas to try and save him and other Republicans from humiliating defeat amid disastrous new polling, showing 65% of U.S. adults believe Trump’s policies are to blame for higher prices and as the Cook Political Report shifts the Texas Governor’s race away from Abbott for the second time since August.

“Donald Trump just insulted the thousands of Texans who have been forced to live next to data centers they don’t want because of Greg Abbott, and Abbott doesn’t even have the guts to stand up to him. That’s why for the first time since 2014, he’s too chicken to get on the debate stage. Abbott wants people to believe that he’s suddenly fighting back against data centers after spending the last decade welcoming them with open arms and no rules. Then when the president attacks the people he’s elected to serve, he’s got nothing to say. That should tell Texans everything they need to know about who Greg Abbott is really working for,” said Texas Democratic Party Spokesman Jacob Long.
