“Three Terms is Enough” – Major Texas Newspapers Eviscerate Greg Abbott’s Failed Record
DALLAS, TX – As career politician Greg Abbott hides from public campaign events, dodges the debate stage, and refuses to answer basic questions about his record, two of Texas’s leading newspapers are making sure voters know exactly how he’s failed them.
In separate editorials, the Austin American-Statesman and San Antonio Express-News deliver blistering indictments of Abbott’s 12 years in office, nailing him for struggling public schools, rising cost of living, unchecked data center development, shameless political crusades, and failing to focus on the basic needs of all Texans.
Notably, Abbott didn’t even bother showing up to make his case to either editorial board, underscoring how little he thinks of Texas voters as he asks them for four more years.
As the Statesman wrote, Abbott has “repeatedly used the power of his office to advance political priorities while neglecting Texans’ basic needs” and noted that on his watch, more than 170 schools have closed while he pushed a $1 billion private school voucher program.
The Express-News called Abbott’s agenda a “tired shtick,” writing that his election-year flip flop over data centers “lacks credibility,” and that after 12 years Abbott has “come to take Texans’ votes for granted.”
“If Greg Abbott believes he deserves four more years, he should be man enough to answer for his record. Instead, he’s dodging the debate stage, refusing to talk with editorial boards, and isn’t hosting public campaign events. Voters have no access to him – and it’s easy to see why. Under Greg Abbott, public schools are closing, communities are being overwhelmed by data centers, and property taxes are up 85%. Greg Abbott has spent 12 years looking out for his billionaire corporate donors and leaving working families behind. And this November, voters will hold him accountable for selling out Texas,” said Texas Democratic Party Spokesman Jacob Long.
