Texas Republicans Fully “Freaking Out” over Predicted Losses, Trump’s Economy as GOP Cracks Grow

DALLAS, TX – With less than three weeks to go until Election Day, Texas Republicans are starting to play the blame game as they openly panic about their re-election chances amid new polling showing even career politician Greg Abbott is losing to Gina Hinojosa despite spending $164 million to try and save himself and buy a fourth term.

In a new interview with Texas Monthly, Republican Texas House Speaker Dade Phelan publicly sounded the alarm over lagging GOP enthusiasm, saying “It’s real. People are freaking out. There’s serious concern like I’ve never seen before.”

When asked directly about Abbott, Phelan said Republicans are being dragged down by Donald Trump’s handling of the economy and that “you own it if you’re a Republican.”

His comments follow newly leaked audio reported by Rolling Stone that captures corrupt Ken Paxton telling a room of wealthy Washington lobbyists that “Abbott is struggling” and predicted that Texas Republicans are “going to probably lose some seats.”

“Career politician Greg Abbott has been a rubber stamp for Donald Trump’s agenda every step of the way. Texans know life has not gotten any more affordable while they’ve been in office, and they know that if Greg Abbott was serious about bringing costs down he could’ve done everything he’s promising to do now at any point during the last 12 years. No amount of election-year promises and flip flops is going to change Greg Abbott’s record of putting his corporate billionaire donors first and leaving working families paying more,” said Texas Democratic Party Spokesman Jacob Long.
