FLIP FLOP FRIDAY: GREG ABBOTT IS TOO SCARED TO DEBATE GINA HINOJOSA
DALLAS, TX – Career politician Greg Abbott has participated in a televised gubernatorial debate every time he’s run for office over the last 12 years.
He debated in 2014. He debated in 2018. And he debated just four years ago in 2022.

Now, down in some recent polls and in the weakest position of his long political career, Greg Abbott is running scared and too afraid to debate Gina Hinojosa.
It’s been more than three months since Hinojosa accepted the first of four debate invitations – one of which was scheduled for today, Friday, September 25 in partnership with KXAN-TV and Nexstar.
Hinojosa has also accepted debate invitations in October, to be broadcast in both English and Spanish in partnership with Hearst newspapers and NBCUniversal. Yet, it’s still crickets from Greg Abbott, who’s refused to debate this cycle and continues to ignore other debate invitations.
“Greg Abbott used to debate his opponents. Now, facing his toughest re-election challenge yet, he’s chickening out. After 30 years in public office, Greg Abbott doesn’t want to defend a record that has left hardworking Texas families paying higher prices while billionaires, big corporations, and political donors get lucrative state contracts and massive tax giveaways. Greg Abbott would rather hide behind false attack ads and scripted speeches than stand across from Gina Hinojosa and explain why he hasn’t already done all of the things he’s promising to do now that it’s an election year. Greg Abbott needs to stop hiding and accept a debate before Texans start casting their ballots in a matter of weeks,” said Texas Democratic Party Spokesman Jacob Long.
