FALLING BEHIND: New Polling Shows Greg Abbott in the Weakest Position of His Decades-Long Political Career

DALLAS, TX – New polling released on Thursday confirmed that with just seven weeks left until Election Day career politician Greg Abbott is in his weakest position ever after nearly 30 years in public office and may be on the verge of a historic defeat.

The survey from ReconMR/Siena found Gina Hinojosa beating Abbott 49-45% – which marks the first time a Democrat has ever led Abbott in public polling in an election year. And it’s in spite of the fact that Abbott has outspent Hinojosa by more than $35 million.

“Greg Abbott thought he could coast into a fourth term by ignoring Gina Hinojosa for nine months and running the same old, tired playbook – barely campaigning, spending millions on ads, and recycling culture war attacks that fall flat. But the more people see and hear Greg Abbott the more they remember he’s had 30 years in office to do the things he’s promising to do now – and they want to know why he hasn’t done it already. That’s why he won’t debate. That’s why he avoids large campaign events. And that’s why, as the Houston Chronicle pointed out today, he’s flip-flopped on key issues like data centers and Flock cameras. Texans are worried about kitchen table issues like $6 diesel and struggling public schools. Greg Abbott has spent his entire time as governor looking out for billionaires and big corporations – and in November he’s going to pay for it,” said Texas Democratic Party Spokesman Jacob Long.
