DALLAS, TX —Uh oh! Career politician Greg Abbott just got caught lying to Texans about State Representative Gina Hinojosa’s voting record on property taxes.

Abbott’s campaign went up on TV statewide this week with a new ad asserting that Hinojosa has voted “40 times” in the legislature to raise property taxes.

But as the Houston Chronicle concluded, “Hinojosa has never directly voted to make your property taxes go even higher” because the state legislature does not levy property taxes – counties and school districts do.

Further, the Chronicle notes how Abbott is running another campaign ad where he openly acknowledges this well-known fact, saying “only local governments impose property taxes.”

The truthh is Gina Hinojosa has never once voted to raise property taxes for Texans.

“This is classic Greg Abbott – talking out of every side of his mouth. One day, he says local governments are to blame for higher property taxes. Next, he blames the state legislature. The day after that he says the governor can’t control property taxes but if someone else becomes governor, your taxes will definitely go up. Greg Abbott should look in the mirror and point the finger at himself. Property taxes are up 85% in Texas – and he’s been in charge the entire time. The reason he’s lying about Gina’s record is because he’s trying to distract from his own record of driving up costs and making life more expensive for Texans,” said Texas Democratic Party Spokesman Jacob Long.
