AUSTIN, TX — AWKWARD! Ken Paxton “crumbled” on his tele-townhall this week where he faced a brutal onslaught of questions on his scandal-plagued career and his failing campaign.

A Texan started off asking, “I’m just wondering ― why did you cheat on your wife?” which Paxton refused to address in a now-viral moment. Paxton was then asked by a Republican voter why when she drives around her neighborhood she only sees Talarico signs before she was seemingly hung up on by Paxton’s team.

This humiliating tele-townhall is just the latest in a string of embarrassing moments for Paxton on the campaign trail. In recent weeks, Paxton was torched by Republicans for barely campaigning, he faced angry crowds accusing him of protecting pedophiles and ran away from his own press conference.

  • A caller to Ken Paxton’s phone town hall on Monday cut to the chase.

  • “I’m just wondering ― why did you cheat on your wife?” she asked Paxton, the scandal-marred Republican candidate for U.S. Senate in Texas.

  • “Um, I’m not gonna talk about personal issues that relate to my family, just like I don’t think you would wanna discuss your marriage on a call with thousands of people,” he replied.”

  • Angela Paxton filed for divorce from Paxton “on biblical grounds” in July 2025, accusing him of adultery. Shortly after, Ken Paxton appeared to place the blame elsewhere for their split.

  • “After facing the pressures of countless political attacks and public scrutiny, Angela and I have decided to start a new chapter in our lives,” he wrote on X.

  • Trump-backed Paxton, the Texas attorney general who faces Democrat James Talarico in a closely watched race, has been dogged by a sketchy past that includes bribery allegations.

  • Paxton was accused of helping a real estate developer harass his enemies in exchange for the developer funding the renovation of Paxton’s home and helping cover up an extramarital affair. Paxton was impeached and acquitted.

  • Scandal-laden MAGA Senate hopeful Ken Paxton crumbled during a town hall meeting when he was asked why he’d cheated on his wife.

  • The Texas attorney general, 63, who won a bruising Republican primary with Donald Trump’s backing, was kicked out of the home he shared with his wife, state Sen. Angela Paxton, 62, after she accused him of adultery, according to a 2025 divorce filing she based on “biblical grounds.”

  • During a tele-townhall earlier this week, he fielded questions from the public. During one phone interaction, a woman was heard saying, “Nice to meet you,” before asking, “I’m just wondering—why did you cheat on your wife?”

  • Paxton clammed up and launched into a rambling answer. “Um, I’m not gonna talk about personal issues that relate to my family, just like I don’t think you would wanna discuss your marriage on a call with thousands of people,” he said.

  • Paxton’s personal life has been a source of public debate lately. On Saturday, hecklers hijacked his event in Houston, shouting “You cheated on your wife!” at the attorney general.

  • He was questioning Talarico’s Christian beliefs as he was heckled. Two others were ejected from the event for shouting “Paxton protects pedophiles,” according to TownHall editor Joe Chalfant. This seemingly refers to Paxton offering a lenient plea deal to a man charged with repeatedly sexually abusing a young boy. Under the bargain negotiated by state prosecutors, the Waco man was allowed to plead guilty to two misdemeanors and serve a sentence of just one day in jail.

  • Paxton has been dogged by controversy. He was impeached by the state legislature in 2023 over damning allegations of bribery and abuse of public trust. Former aides blew the whistle on Paxton, accusing him of leveraging his powerful position to enrich both himself and a prominent Texas real estate developer.

  • Divorce proceedings have further exposed his staggering wealth, shedding light on an expansive $9 million property portfolio.

  • Meanwhile, the candidate spent the Fourth of July weekend gallivanting around Europe with his mistress, Christian influencer Tracy Duhon, 58—sightseeing near the London Eye while Americans marked 250 years of independence from Britain.

  • His Democratic Senate opponent used it for his own political ends. “Americans celebrated 250 years of independence from Britain this weekend,” Talarico’s campaign wrote. “Ken Paxton spent it with the British.”

  • After seeing off incumbent Sen. John Cornyn in a landslide May primary, Paxton may have met his match in Talarico. The RealClearPolitics polling average currently puts Talarico slightly ahead of the embattled attorney general. A recent Texas Southern University survey gave the Democratic lawmaker a narrow edge of 47 percent to 45 percent, while other public polling shows the pair deadlocked or Paxton clinging to a marginal lead.

  • Texas Attorney General and U.S. Senate candidate Ken Paxton appeared flustered when he was confronted during a town hall about allegations that he cheated on his wife of 38 years.

  • During the virtual town hall on Monday, August 10, a caller greeted Paxton before asking, “I’m just wondering — why did you cheat on your wife?”

  • The confrontation came just over a year after Paxton’s wife, state Sen. Angela Paxton, announced that she was leaving him and filing for divorce after nearly 38 years of marriage.

  • Angela Paxton said she was filing for divorce on “biblical grounds,” writing that she had pursued reconciliation but, “in light of recent discoveries,” no longer believed remaining in the marriage was loving to herself, her children or Ken.

  • Angela’s divorce filing later accused Paxton of adultery, according to reporting by KUT and The New York Times.

  • The Paxtons’ marital problems drew significant public scrutiny because both held elected office in Texas.

  • On the same day as Paxton’s primary victory, Angela notably left Ken off a list of candidates she encouraged voters to support in the Republican runoff elections.

  • Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton was confronted by a blunt question about his infidelity during a tele-town hall held as part of his campaign for U.S. Senate.

  • One caller greeted Paxton before asking, “I’m just wondering — why did you cheat on your wife?”

  • Paxton refused to directly answer, saying, “I’m not going to talk about personal issues that relate to my family,” before adding that he was proud of his children.

  • The article notes that Paxton’s infidelity, which contributed to the collapse of his marriage, has been directly linked to the abuse-of-power scandal that led the Texas House to impeach him.

  • Paxton ultimately escaped conviction in the Texas Senate, and subsequently worked behind the scenes to support primary challengers against several state representatives who had voted to impeach him.

  • The confrontation comes as Paxton faces an unusually competitive U.S. Senate race against Democratic state representative and Presbyterian minister James Talarico.
