BUSTED: Local Republican Leader Calls Out Greg Abbott for Election Year “Lies” about Property Taxes
DALLAS, TX – Career politician Greg Abbott is getting called out by a member of his own party for his election year “lies” and attempts to try and pin blame on everyone else for soaring property taxes across Texas.
According to the Cleburne Times-Review, Johnson County Commissioner Rick Bailey, a Republican, blasted Abbott’s latest messaging on property taxes, calling it “smoke and mirrors” and saying Abbott’s claim that local governments are to blame for higher property taxes is “a lie.”
He added that local governments are getting squeezed by state-manded expenses and other rising costs handed down by Abbott. “I would just say our governor is lying to the people just to stay elected, and you can quote me on that,” Bailey said.
Bailey went on to compare Abbott’s recent comments on property taxes to his sudden election year flip flop on data centers, saying “It’s just like [Abbott’s] current stance on data centers, and we’ll see where he sits on that after November.”
“This is the Greg Abbott election year playbook. New polling confirms he’s on the verge of losing this race, so he’s desperate to blame anyone else for the problems that have only gotten worse on his watch. Then he reverses course, flip flops, and promises to fix it if he just gets a little more time to the 30 years in public office he’s already had. He did it with data centers, Flock surveillance cameras, and now he’s doing it with property taxes. As even his fellow Republicans can see, Greg Abbott can point fingers all he wants, but he can’t run away from his record and the fact that property taxes have gone up in Texas 85% while he’s been in charge,” said Texas Democratic Party Spokesman Jacob Long.
