DALLAS, TX —As President Donald Trump travels to Denton today to promote his economic record, the latest data from the Joint Economic Committee’s Democratic staff show that the average Texas household has paid more than $3,000 in additional costs for goods and services as of August 2026. Texas families have faced an additional $360 in housing costs, and Texans have spent an estimated $803 more on gasoline since the beginning of the war in Iran, according to the JEC.

Those numbers put today’s economic rhetoric in the context of what Texans are experiencing in their everyday lives. Texas Democrats recently went into communities and asked voters directly how they feel about the economy, and their answers offer a firsthand perspective on the pressures families are facing.
