Trump and His Lapdogs Shut Down the Government To Avoid Protecting Texans' Health Care

AUSTIN, Texas – Donald Trump and Texas Republicans passed the largest cut to health care in history, under which 1.4 million Texans will be kicked off their health insurance. Now, Trump is creating another crisis. 

Trump and his Republicans have barreled us into a government shutdown that would throw the economy into even more chaos. Democrats are united: Cancel the cuts, lower costs, and save health care for Texans.

Make no mistake: Trump and the Republicans have the Senate, House, and the White House. This will be a Trump Shutdown. Trump and his Republican puppets will have to own this egregious stand-off, at the expense of government agencies and employees and the citizens they serve.

“Donald Trump and his lapdogs in the U.S. Congress would rather shut down the government than work with Democrats to prevent a massive health care crisis for thousands of Texans at a time we can least afford it,” said Texas Democratic Party Chairman Kendall Scudder. “Trump and Republicans are responsible for skyrocketing costs, and now, they won’t even come to the table to govern with Democrats who are trying to lower Texans’ costs.”
