Abbott Caves to Trump And Attempts To Deploy Texas National Guard To Other States
AUSTIN, Texas – Late last night, Greg Abbott announced he was caving to Donald Trump’s demands and authorized Trump to deploy 400 Texas National Guard members to take over other U.S. cities. This came hours after a Trump-appointed judge blocked a similar authorization for the California National Guard to be sent to Portland. Another federal judge also blocked the Texas deployment, but it remains a dangerous sign that Donald Trump is choosing new targets, and Greg Abbott is willing to use Texans as pawns. As we've seen before, this signals escalation.
“Greg Abbott is such a sad, pathetic loser; he’ll just do anything to get a shred of Donald Trump’s attention, even if it means invading another state,” said Texas Democratic Party Chairman Kendall Scudder. “When Donald Trump needed five congressional seats, who did he call? Greg Abbott. When Trump wanted to push a wildly unpopular voucher scam, Gregory was on speed dial. Now, when Trump needs extra troops to continue his military invasion of political opponents, who does he call? Greg Abbott.
“Why would Greg Abbott rather send the National Guard to incite unrest in other states instead of focusing on saving or recovering the still-missing children from the July 4th floods? We look forward to the courts shutting this clearly unconstitutional nonsense down.”
