ICYMI: Texas Democrats Deliver Wins Across Texas in Local Elections—Big Step for 2026

AUSTIN, TEXAS – This past Saturday, Democrats won up and down the ballot across the state. In Tarrant County alone, the largest Republican run county in the nation, Tarrant GOP endorsed candidates went 0–11 in the May 3 elections. It's clear that Texans are waking up to the damage caused by 30 years of Republican control. It's almost poetic that such a sweeping defeat for Republicans happened while Greg Abbott and Dan Patrick were busy selling out Texas public schools to billionaires. These victories mark an important step in preparing for 2026.

Texas Democratic Party Chairman Kendall Scudder issued the following statement:

I want to first start off by congratulating all our candidates who won this past Saturday. The state of Texas and our future are better because you won. I also want to thank the voters and organizers who were at the polls to make sure that their voices are heard at the local level. Local school boards, city councils, and mayors are the backbone of our communities, and are part of our plan to build up our local elected officials to the highest elected office.

“These victories show that the people are tired and are ready to fight back against the Republicans and their billionaire owners/donors. There is a movement of working class Texans who are tired of being taken advantage of by Greg Abbott and the Republicans.”
