MY TEXAS VOTES

VDR Resources

Did you know that you can become a Volunteer Deputy Registrar in more than one county?

Texas law allows you to be deputized in as many counties as you’d like – even if you don’t reside or aren’t registered to vote in them. You must, however, reapply in each individual county. Reciprocity makes this easier by transferring your previous training and certification over to a new county so you don’t have to repeat the entire process all over again.

Each county maintains different processes for reciprocity, but they are all fairly simple and straightforward.

If you’re already a certified VDR in one county, click here to learn more about the process for getting certified in other counties.

If you’re not yet a certified VDR but want to help people get registered to vote at events or at their doors, you can check with your county’s elections office for info about when the next training is. Or you can do your initial training online with Harris County and then use the reciprocity process to get deputized in your own home county.
