Texas Families Are Paying More as Costs Continue to Rise Under Trump

DALLAS, TX — New data released today by the Senate Joint Economic Committee (A bipartisan body) shows that Texas families continue to face significantly higher costs for everyday necessities under President Donald Trump. According to the Committee’s updated data, the average Texas household has paid more than $3,000 in additional costs for goods and services as of August 2026. The new figures come despite President Trump’s campaign promises to bring down costs and “end inflation,” with the Committee pointing to rising costs associated with tariffs and the war in Iran.

The added costs are hitting Texans where it hurts most: their household budgets. Texas families have paid an additional $360 in housing costs, while grocery prices are now more than 4 percent higher than when Trump took office. Energy costs have also climbed sharply: Texans have spent an additional $8 billion on gasoline since the beginning of the war in Iran, amounting to approximately $803 more per Texas family, while families spent an additional $120 on electricity in 2025 and another $80 during the first six months of 2026 compared with the same periods in 2024. At the same time, ACA premiums rose more than 50 percent nationally in 2026, while deductibles increased by more than $1,000 on average.
