Greg Abbott Chickens Out of Debate, Refuses to Answer for Record of Prioritizing Billionaire Donors over Texans
DALLAS, TX – Career politician Greg Abbott chickened out of appearing on the debate stage with Gina Hinojosa today, refusing again to show up and answer questions about his record of putting corporate billionaires first and working Texas families last.

This marks the fifth time this election cycle that Abbott has ignored or refused a chance to debate Hinojosa, despite the fact he’s debated each of his previous opponents every time he’s run for governor.
Most concerningly, Abbott remains largely inaccessible to the average voter since he’s dodging large rallies open to the public and only making himself available under highly choreographed and tightly controlled circumstances.
As the Sabine County Reporter observed during a recent roundtable conversation with Abbott, the governor’s team “had specific parameters for the people they wanted represented” and restricted media coverage to certain portions of the event with only the opportunity “to ask a couple of questions.”
Now, with less than three weeks until Election Day, it looks like voters won’t get to see Abbott anytime soon as he’s set to kick off his GOTV efforts “virtually.”

“The contrast in this race could not be more clear. Gina Hinojosa is traveling the state, hosting more than 150 public events and meeting directly with thousands of voters in their homes and in their communities. The only people who seem to have access to Greg Abbott are the billionaire donors lining his pockets. That’s how you know who he’s most interested in serving because he’s certainly not meeting with people concerned about public schools, data centers, Flock cameras, or record-high diesel fuel. Texans deserve a governor like Gina Hinojosa who will always show up, face tough questions, and offer a real plan to bring down costs and make life better for working families,” said Texas Democratic Party Spokesman Jacob Long.
