After Greg Abbott Promises $2 Gas, Diesel Fuel Soars to Record High in Texas
DALLAS, TX — In an interview with ABC News, career politician Greg Abbott said that gas prices should be under $2/gal “by the end of summer.”
Instead, Texans are paying higher prices than ever at the pump.
AAA reported on Tuesday that the average price of diesel is now $5.88/gal – the state’s highest price on record – up from just $3.19/gal one year ago. AAA also reported that the average price of regular unleaded in Texas is approaching $4/gal – up from $2.78/gal one year ago.
The new record comes amid Abbott’s continued refusal to pause the state’s gas tax as other states have done to bring relief to drivers.
“After three decades in public office, Greg Abbott could not be more out of touch with what’s keeping voters up at night. He thinks they’re interested in been-there-done-that culture war politics. It’s tone deaf and dismissive in the face of soaring prices. Who has time to think about culture wars when they’re being squeezed to afford the very basics, including putting gas in your tank just to get to work or school. Texans don’t need more of Greg Abbott’s distractions and empty promises about $2 gas. They deserve a governor like Gina Hinojosa who will show up and take real action to make life more affordable, like pausing the state gas tax,” said Texas Democratic Party Spokesman Jacob Long.
