Texas Democratic Party Chairman Kendall Scudder’s Statement On Sine Die of the 89th Legislature

AUSTIN, Texas – Throughout the 89th session, Texas Democrats stood united and worked hard to pass bills that improve the lives of working people, such as lowering the cost of housing, reducing classroom sizes, expanding healthcare, and cutting the cost of childcare. But Texas Republicans said “no.” Instead of working to deliver for the working men and women of this state, Republicans were preoccupied with culture wars, personal pet issues, and licking the boots of their billionaire donors/owners.

Texas Democratic Party Chairman Kendall Scudder issued the following statement:

“Texans of all stripes expected their legislators to go to Austin and work to make their lives better, and Democrats rose to that challenge. Republicans, on the other hand, spent their time obsessing over trans people, mandating their personal religious doctrine, and turning tricks for their billionaire buddies.”

“While Texas Democrats were focused on protecting jobs, defending public schools, and ensuring Texans have access to healthcare, Republicans passed bills that grew the size of government, infringed on your individual liberties, and created a gravy train for rich folks to send their kids to fancy private schools at the expense of your kid’s future.”

“The legislative session may be over, but Texas Democrats will not stop fighting for the little guy. In 2026, we will make sure Texans never forget who sold them out to billionaires and special interests. Democrats built Texas, and Democrats can save Texas.”
