Texas Democratic Party Chairman Kendall Scudder Announces Senior Leadership Team

AUSTIN, Texas Chairman Scudder is ushering in a new day in the Texas Democratic Party—one defined by fresh energy, bold leadership, and a renewed commitment to building a political organization that reflects the strength and diversity of our communities. With that comes the elevation of two exceptional leaders to the team: Brenda Cruz will serve as Chief of Staff to the Chairman, and Sam Gostomski will serve as Executive Director.

"As we move forward, we are restructuring the party to function as a modern, effective political force that is grounded in the values we fight for every day. Brenda and Sam bring deep experience and tireless dedication to this mission. I fully believe in their leadership and know they will help us build the organization our movement deserves,” said Texas Democratic Party Chairman Kendall Scudder.

Brenda Cruz, a proud Laredo native and the daughter of working-class parents, has been with the Texas Democratic Party since 2018. Her work as County Services Director has already impacted communities across the state, and we're excited to elevate her to this new role where she will continue to lead with heart and purpose.

Sam Gostomski, a fourth-generation Texan from San Antonio, has been with the party since 2020, starting as a VAN assistant, serving as Legislative and District Director in the state Legislature, and rising to become Data Director of the Texas Democratic Party’s nationally renowned data team. His experience with Texas campaigns, the Texas Legislature, and his long tenure with the Texas Democratic Party makes him uniquely equipped to guide our organization into the future.

Chairman Scudder would like to extend his gratitude to Monique Alcala, the outgoing Executive Director under former Chairman Gilberto Hinojosa. "We are grateful for Ms. Alcala’s stewardship of the party,” said Chairman Scudder. "During her tenure, Monique presided over a statewide coordinated campaign and made strides that helped move our party forward, and we are incredibly grateful for her service. This is more than a staffing change—it's a statement of intent. We are building something lasting, and we are doing it together."
