Texas Democratic Party Statement on the Confirmation of Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to the U.S. Supreme Court
AUSTIN, Texas - Today, the United States Senate confirmed Judge Ketanji Brown Jackson to the Supreme Court. Judge Jackson’s historic confirmation will bring a wealth of judicial knowledge and experience to the highest court in our country, and we celebrate her dedication to our country and defending our constitution.
Texas Democratic Party Co-Executive Director Jamarr Brown released the following statement:
“Judge Jackson is going to be an incredible addition to the United States Supreme Court. She is one of the most brilliant legal minds in history, and her confirmation to the Supreme Court is a momentous occasion for our country. Her life experiences combined with her intellect will bring a wealth of knowledge the court has lacked for some time.
“Judge Jackson’s family exemplifies a true American success story thanks to hard work and determination. Her parents went to segregated schools and experienced the Jim Crow South as kids, but through hard work, they attended and graduated from college and became public school teachers. Eventually, her father went on to earn a law degree too. And now their daughter will become the first Black woman to serve on the Supreme Court.
“Republican Senators Ted Cruz and John Cornyn voted against confirming Judge Jackson for no reason besides partisan politics. They made a mockery of the confirmation process by using their time to peddle baseless conspiracy theories and racist attacks to pander to their base. It is absolutely inexcusable that Texas Republicans decided to politicize this historic moment for nothing more than a soundbite. Judge Jackson’s record and character are unimpeachable.
“The Texas Democratic Party applauds President Biden's dedication to fulfilling his campaign promise of naming the first African American female justice to the supreme court. It is a solemn reminder that while we have made significant progress, we still have a long way to go. Judge Jackson will serve our country with dignity, honor, and grace. We congratulate Judge Jackson on her history making confirmation.”
