Chairman Hinojosa Releases Statement on Federal Judge in Texas Siding with AG Paxton, Against Texas Women

AUSTIN, Texas -- Today, Texas Democratic Party Chair Gilberto Hinojosa released the following statement on a federal judge in Texas siding with indicted Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton in his lawsuit against the federal government over its emergency protections for abortion care if it is needed to save the life of the mother:

“Last month, indicted Attorney General Ken Paxton and Texas Republicans showed with their lawsuit to block protections for women who are in a medical emergency that they’ll stop at nothing to exert control over Texans – and steamroll Texans with their extreme, far-right ideologies. As I said when AG Paxton filed the lawsuit: this is not about being ‘pro-life.’ This is about forcing birth, even if it will literally kill women.

“There is no end to these Republicans’ depravity and extremism. The enormous unpopularity of their ideas does not sway them in the slightest. 

“Today, a day before Texas’s trigger law goes into effect, we have yet another reason to be angry and heartbroken for Texas women. Let me be clear: we strongly disagree with this ruling – and we stand with the millions of Texans who have been dealt yet another blow to their fundamental freedoms and bodily autonomy.

“Lives are literally on the line this November. We must vote these dangerous ultra-conservative, extreme politicians out of office – be it in Austin or Washington – before their cruel quest for control kills more women.”
