AUSTIN, Texas – Last night, the New York Times reported that Donald Trump and his team are urging a “ruthless” approach to redistricting the state of Texas to protect the slim Republican House majority. After an emergency Texas Congressional Republican meeting, the plan includes having Governor Greg Abbott, Dan Patrick, and Ken Paxton call a July special session for midcensus redistricting to shift reliable Republican voters into Democratic districts. Donald Trump is trying to steal congressional seats and wants to keep the slim majority he has in the House to protect his disastrous administration and himself from lawsuits.

“Greg Abbott doesn’t work for us; he works for the billionaire class in Washington, DC. So when Trump says he’d rather hand-pick our members of Congress instead of letting Texans do it ourselves, he knows Abbott will do a little curtsy and let him have whatever he wants,” said Texas Democratic Party Chairman Kendall Scudder. “Donald Trump’s administration and policies are grossly unpopular, so he’s now taken to robbing seats in Congress to force his agenda on all of us. Texas Democrats are not going to just roll over and let them steal the voice of our state. We’re going to fight like hell and do whatever it takes to ensure that Texans get to choose our own representatives to the United States Congress who work for us, not for Donald Trump.”
