Texas Democrats Respond to Extremist Proposal Targeting Immigrant Children’s Education

Democrats say attacks on immigrant children ignore the law and threaten Texas communities

DALLAS/FORT WORTH – The Texas Democratic Party strongly condemns Stephen Miller’s heartless, inhumane and unconstitutional challenge to educating Texas children regardless of immigration status — a position that  flies in the face of the Supreme Court’s  Plyler v Doe decision that guarantees access to public education for all children. This kind of hate  ignores the rule of law and sends a dangerous message: that constitutional protections only matter when convenient.

Policies like these won’t solve real problems — they will only make life harder for families who come to this country to work, contribute, and pursue the American Dream. Undocumented immigrants are part of our communities and our economy, paying nearly $100 billion in federal, state, and local taxes annually, including billions into Social Security and Medicare — programs they are largely barred from ever accessing.

Instead of attacking children and undermining settled law, Texas leaders should focus on real problems and real solutions that strengthen our economy and support working families. Texans deserve leadership that respects the Constitution, values hard work, and recognizes that our future depends on opportunity — not exclusion.
