Texas Democrats Fill Every Seat on the 2026 Ballot
For the first time for either party in modern Texas history, Democrats have candidates in every state house, state senate, congressional, statewide judicial, and SBOE race
Austin, TX — Texas Democrats have officially filed candidates in every state house, state senate, U.S. congressional, statewide judicial, and State Board of Education race for the 2026 election cycle. This marks the first time in modern Texas history that either party has filled the entire slate.
This achievement is due to the Blue Texas program, the coordinated partnership between the Texas Majority PAC and the Texas Democratic Party that launched earlier this year to ensure no district goes uncontested. TMP and TDP, working closely with Beto O’Rourke, Wendy Davis, and others, recruited 104 candidates to run for office.
Since 1994, Texas Democrats have allowed on average about 50 of these seats to go uncontested, leaving millions of Texans without the option to vote for Democrats below the top of the ticket. In 2018, the last “blue wave” year, Texas Democrats left 20 seats uncontested and still flipped two congressional seats and 12 state house seats.
“No Republican gets a free pass in Texas. I don’t care where they live, or how long they’ve been in office– if they want to hold office in Texas, they’re gonna have to fight us for it, ”said Texas Democratic Party Chairman Kendall Scudder.
“We can’t win elections if we don’t even try, and we intend to fight for every single seat in 2026,” said Katherine Fischer, Executive Director of Texas Majority PAC. “Texas Democrats are prepared to make the case to every single Texan that Republican government has failed them and it’s time for new leadership.”
