RELEASE: MAGA Republicans are Sabotaging Border Funding to Help Trump’s 2024 Presidential Campaign Platform

AUSTIN, Texas Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell informed Senate Republicans during a closed-door Wednesday meeting that their party finds themselves in a “quandary” over a bipartisan national security package deal that includes more funding for border security. McConnell also stated that former President Donald Trump is their “nominee” and that Senate Republicans should not reach a deal to secure border funding in an effort to help Trump’s 2024 campaign platform, touting lack of border security efforts from Democrats.

Texas Senator Ted Cruz is complicit in this effort to kill border security funding – citing that the border package doesn’t “solve” the problem, and even going as far as saying that Senate Republicans “should fix the problem or give up on it.”

Texas Democratic Party Chairman Gilberto Hinojosa issued the following statement:

“It’s clear that Senate and House Republicans are rallying behind Trump in his efforts to kill this necessary national security package. They don’t want solutions to border issues – they want to completely sabotage our national security to help Trump’s re-election campaign. All along, the MAGA Republican cry for border security has been rooted in hypocrisy as now they reveal their true intentions: Point the finger at President Biden as they sit on their hands.

“To state plainly – Donald Trump, Ted Cruz and Greg Abbott have declared war on the Border Patrol and on the federal government's efforts to maintain border security. MAGA policies are dangerous for border communities like mine, and the blame for withholding the necessary funds to ease the burden of these communities lies solely with the Republican Party. Border communities know this and see right through the schemes to militarize their neighborhoods, and they will remember this at the ballot box in November.”
