PAXTON MISCONDUCT MILESTONE: 1 Year Since Ken Paxton Stuck Texas Taxpayers With A Bill Of $6.6 Million For Retaliating Against Whistleblowers
AUSTIN, TX — One year ago, Ken Paxton, “to avoid answering questions under oath about his corruption,” stuck Texas taxpayers with a bill of more than $6 million to cover the costs of retaliating against his own staff, after they reported him to the FBI for suspicions of bribery and abuse of office.
Paxton’s former top and closest aides told the FBI that Paxton used his office to help enrich one of his wealthy donors, Nate Paul. Paul also allegedly helped Paxton remodel his home and gave a job to the woman Paxton was having an extramarital affair that he went to great lengths to hide using “burner phones, secret emails and an Uber account with a fake name.”
Paxton fired his staff that attempted to stand up to his corruption in violation of the Texas Whistleblower Act. Paxton’s own staff then sued him for retaliation and wrongful termination, with Paxton admitting wrongdoing and leaving Texas taxpayers on the hook to pay over $6 million to cover the costs of his illegal actions.
Texas Democratic Party Spokesperson Ryan Martin:
“One year later and Texas taxpayers are still footing the bill for Ken Paxton’s corruption. The aides closest to Ken Paxton reported him to the FBI and then he stuck Texans with a bill of over $6 million when he got caught retaliating against the whistleblowers. Ken Paxton can run all the way to Iceland to avoid answering for his corruption and Epstein-style sweetheart deals, but he can’t outrun his record and come November the voters will be holding him accountable.”
