MOMENTUM IN TEXAS: Democrats United Kicking Off 2024 with a Strong Lineup and Grassroots Determination

AUSTIN, Texas – Texas Democrats are entering the 2024 cycle with new leadership, a stacked deck of candidates at every level, programs to recruit and support those candidates, and a strong, energized, and united Party infrastructure.

Under the leadership of Monique Alcala, the first woman of color to lead the organization, the Texas Democratic Party launched Texas Blueprint, the official 2024 Texas Democratic coordinated campaign, over a year ahead of the general election – marking another first for the Party.

“With strong leadership, a solid coordinated campaign and stacked deck of candidates – 2024 is shaping up to be a big and bold year for Texas Democrats in each corner of our state, " said Texas Democratic Party Chairman, Gilberto Hinojosa. “We are the only political party in Texas that's truly unified going into this crucial election year. And with a growing team of professional political operatives and a grassroots coalition that’s dedicated to strengthening party infrastructure and innovating voter mobilization strategies – we will fight tooth and nail to keep Joe Biden in the White House, send Ted Cruz packing and elect more Texas Democrats up and down the ballot.”

Texas Blueprint: 2024’s Democratic Coordinated Campaign

Texas Blueprint aims to unite county parties and allied partners in an effort to build Democratic strength and establish Texas as a bonafide battleground state. Over 40 organizations and county parties have already committed to joining Texas Blueprint, including the top 10 largest counties in the state. As a result of this intentional effort to unify the Party, Texas Democrats are entering the 2024 cycle with momentum on our side.

Candidate Recruitment & Support
Lone Star Rising, our candidate recruitment program that was launched this past September, has meaningfully increased the number of Democrats running for office up and down the ballot. This program was created to recruit candidates and county chairs, as well as to provide direct support for campaigns in all corners of the state.

Texas Democratic candidates represent our Party’s shared values, dedication to selfless public service, and what makes Texas special. They will be contesting seats in the following races this cycle:

  • Every statewide office on the ballot, with 12 candidates combined running for U.S. Senate and Railroad Commissioner.

  • Every Texas Supreme Court seat on the ballot, with 4 candidates running.

  • Every seat on the Court of Criminal Appeals on the ballot, with 3 candidates running.

  • Every seat on the State Board of Education on the ballot, with 7 candidates running.

  • Every Texas Senate seat on the ballot, with 22 candidates running.

  • 85% of the seats in the Texas House, with 162 candidates running.

Renewed dedication to Democratic County Chairs

County chairs are on the frontlines in the fight to protect our sacred democracy. If we want to compete everywhere and fill the ballot in every Texas county in election cycles to come, we need dedicated county chairs to administer the Democratic primary election and spread our message and values far and wide.

Going into 2024, Texas Democrats have over 80% of our county chair positions filled, including in critical rural counties where Republicans are aggressively attacking Texans’ personal freedoms and are working overtime to defund and dismantle our public school system.

“The momentum we are seeing was sparked by the need for change many Texans are feeling. We are running at every level, in every seat because we truly believe that Texas is the battleground of all battleground states. Every position, from precinct chairs to statewides are necessary in turning Texas Blue. The time for change is now,” said Texas Democratic Party Executive Director, Monique Alcala.
