Texas Democratic Party Leadership Urges Local Texas Democratic Leaders to Mobilize Women on Abortion Rights: ‘We Have a Political Obligation to Meet this Moment’
AUSTIN, Texas -- Today, Texas Democratic Party Chairman Gilberto Hinojosa and Texas Democratic Party Vice Chair Shay Wyrick Cathey penned an open letter to Texas Democratic County Party Chairs, Precinct Chairs, and State Democratic Executive Committee (SDEC) Members, explicitly urging them to mobilize women in their communities, on the issue of abortion rights specifically.
In the letter, the Party leaders tell local leaders that “the statistics about this moment are unequivocal in what they are signaling – and as Texas Democrats, we have a political obligation to meet this moment and channel Texan women’s righteous anger and frustration into action.”
“We must move mountains to register each and every eligible woman to vote,” the pair continues. “We must do everything in our power to make it as easy as possible for every eligible Texas woman to cast her vote.”
Earlier today, the Houston Chronicle published an article about how “while Texas’ new voter registrants are evenly split between men and women, they are younger and more Democratic than before the June [Dobbs] ruling.”
The article, featuring data from the political data and polling firm TargetSmart, reveals that “Democrats now have a 10-percentage point advantage among new registrants since Dobbs, making up 42 percent to Republicans’ 32 percent. Prior to Dobbs, Republicans had a five-point advantage.”
