ALERT: Greg Abbott's Corrupt Policies Are Creating Record Inflation, Threatening the Livelihoods of Texans

AUSTIN, Texas - Greg Abbott is abusing the power of his office to exacerbate the supply chain crisis. His latest political stunt is costing Texans millions and threatening businesses across the country. Abbott continues to be a threat to working families.

Democratic Gubernatorial nominee Beto O’Rourke held a press conference in McAllen, TX to address Abbott’s latest economically damaging political stunt. “I’m here today because of the crisis and the chaos Abbott has caused. Through his (Abbott’s) executive action and mandate of 100% inspections on all commercial vehicles coming into the U.S. he has slowed down U.S.-Mexico trade and brought it to a standstill.” O’Rourke said today. 

Texas ports of entry account for nearly 50% of the total U.S.-Mexico trade which translates to $131 billion in imports and $115 billion in exports. 

Texas Democratic Party Chair Gilberto Hinojosa released the following statement on Greg Abbott’s latest stunt:

“Millions of Texas families are dealing with record inflation because Republicans refuse to show up and do their jobs. In the midst of this ongoing crisis, Greg Abbott has chosen to make matters worse by having state troopers inspect northbound commercial vehicles — historically a job done by the federal government.”

“This intentional attempt by Abbott creates a supply chain and inflation crisis in our state in order to manufacture an economic setback he can then blame on Democrats to gain political points. Abbott continues to play dirty corrupt politics and it is wrong. 

“This is a direct assault on American workers and working families for no reason besides political grandstanding. Abbott is creating inhumane working conditions for our truck drivers who because of this political ploy are sitting in backed-up traffic for hours on end unable to access rest stops for breaks, or to replenish their food and gas.”

“This is why we are mobilizing around the clock to elect Democratic candidates up and down the ballot this November. Texas cannot afford to have ineffective Republican leadership at the helm of our state. At this point the Republican party is intentionally driving our economic, education, and health systems into the ground. Leaders don’t abandon their authority when it is politically expedient, they show up and do their job for the people they swore to serve.

“The Texas Democratic Party condemns the latest efforts by Abbott and his corrupt Republican cronies. We, along with Beto O’Rourke, call for Abbott to immediately stop these stunts and do his job instead of hurting our Texas citizens.

“Texas Republicans are a threat to our economy and small businesses, and his actions puts families at risk of going hungry for their political gains. Abbott is a failed leader; this year Texans will reject him at the ballot box and eject him from office.”
