Kate Cox Forced to Flee the State to Receive Life-Saving Abortion Denied by the Texas Supreme Court
AUSTIN, Texas – Texas Democratic Party Chairman Gilberto Hinojosa issued the following statement after Texas Supreme Court’s refusal to allow Kate Cox to obtain emergency life-saving healthcare, forcing her to leave the state:
“Right now, Kate Cox is living in an all-American nightmare and MAGA Republican extremists are to blame. It is a draconian reality where a woman is forced to flee the state of Texas after being denied a life-saving abortion by the state Supreme Court. We must never forget that Ken Paxton, the Texas Supreme Court and Texas Republicans fought to force her to carry a nonviable fetus to full term at the risk of her own life. Medical decisions should be between patients and doctors but here in Texas, Ken Paxton can make your medical decisions for you — even if that means your life is on the line.
“No child or adult should be forced to carry a pregnancy to term against their will. Full stop. The MAGA Republican Party is running on a platform of authoritarianism, forced birth, and human suffering. They are the anti-freedom Party and will stop at nothing when it comes to enforcing their extremist agenda. Voters are clearly turning their backs on MAGA extremism across the country. And yet, since the overturning of Roe v. Wade Donald Trump, Ted Cruz, and Texas Republicans have fought to increase the cruelty of their extremism by calling for a national abortion ban, travel bans for people seeking abortions, and the jailing of patients and doctors. They are all complicit in the fall of freedom for American women.
“Kate Cox’s case is a blaring, five-alarm call to action. In 2024, Texans have the opportunity to send more Democrats to Washington who are ready to put an end to this madness and codify the right to an abortion at the federal level. The Texas Democratic Party extends our condolences to Kate and her family, and we commend Kate for her bravery in challenging a draconian government to get the life-saving healthcare that she needed. Kate Cox’s story is chilling, and voters will not soon forget about this egregious abuse of power by our MAGA-infused Texas state government.”
