Greg Abbott Weaponizes The Courts to Silence Political Opponents and Enforce Donald Trump's Agenda

AUSTIN, Texas – Texas Democratic Party Chairman Kendall Scudder issued the following statement about Greg Abbott running to SCOTX to remove Texas House Democratic Chair Gene Wu: 

“Greg Abbott is attempting to silence House Democratic Caucus leader Rep. Gene Wu by weaponizing the courts. It is a complete violation of the separation of powers for the governor of this state to think he has the authority to unilaterally remove duly elected officials simply because he disagrees with them using constitutionally protected procedural safeguards.

“While Texans face critical issues like flood recovery, unaffordable housing, and soaring insurance costs, the Governor's focus is on targeting a sitting lawmaker for protecting Texans from Donald Trump’s power grab. Greg Abbott is violating the Texas constitution to do the work of Donald Trump, NOT the work of the people of Texas! 

“Rep. Wu and all House Democratic Caucus members who are sacrificing for this quorum break have the full backing of the Texas Democratic Party, freedom-loving Texans, and Americans nationwide.”
