Austin, TX — A day after new details emerged in The Atlantic of the President’s disdain for the men and women of our American armed forces, Senator John Cornyn remains notably silent.
This is not the first time Cornyn has turned a blind eye to this administration’s attacks on our military. Cornyn voted to allow $38.5 million to be diverted from Texas military bases for a useless border wall, falsely promising the money would be restored (we learned recently it will not be). In June, Cornyn feebly attempted to explain the administration failing to respond to Russian bounties on US troops by claiming that the President can’t be expected to remember everything he is briefed on.
Cornyn’s opponent is Purple Heart and Distinguished Flying Cross recipient MJ Hegar, who was wounded in combat in Afghanistan while medevacing wounded troops. While Cornyn pays lip service to the troops, MJ Hegar actually paid the price for our freedom through her service.
Texas Democratic Party Cornyn War Room Spokesperson and Marine Veteran Son Nguyen released the following statement:
“The fact that the president thinks our wounded and fallen military heroes are ‘losers’ and ‘suckers’ explains a lot of the actions, and inactions, of this administration. It is disgraceful that John Cornyn refuses to stand up on behalf of our military. Cornyn’s political cowardice – on display yet again – is unforgivable and a betrayal to our military community.”
