Austin, TX — A new report by the Washington Post finds that the Texas military construction and readiness projects that were stripped of $38.5 million because of Senator Cornyn’s betrayal still are not getting those funds restored.
A year ago, Senator John Cornyn voted to allow these funds to be diverted from projects meant to improve military bases in San Antonio and El Paso to build an ineffective wall that steals land from Texans. At the time, Cornyn, according to the Texas Tribune, “expressed confidence that the money for the Texas projects would ultimately be restored,” claimed concerns over Texas military bases losing out on funding were “way too parochial” and said, “there won’t be any net loss in my opinion.”
Well, Senator Cornyn, Texas’ military families disagree.
Texas Democratic Party Cornyn War Room Spokesperson Billy Begala released the following statement:
“A year ago, Senator Cornyn supported diverting funding from Texas military bases for a useless border wall and today our men and women in uniform are still feeling the consequences of Cornyn’s political cowardice. MJ Hegar knows what it means to put on the uniform and defend her country. You can be damn sure she would never allow petty partisan politics to hurt our military readiness.”
