Austin, TX –– Today, indicted Texas Republican Attorney General Ken Paxton again led the charge to try to repeal the Affordable Care Act in the midst of a global pandemic.
Texas Democratic Party Chair Gilberto Hinojosa issued the following statement:
“In the middle of a global pandemic, Texas Trump Republicans, like indicted Attorney General Ken Paxton, continue their attacks on the Affordable Care Act. For millions of Texans, the law has never been as important as it is now.
“The Affordable Care Act has guaranteed health care coverage for more than 20 million Americans and ensured that the 10.7 million Texans living with a preexisting condition cannot be unlawfully discriminated against.
“We should be fighting to protect and expand healthcare for all, not cutting off access for millions of people. Texas already ranks dead last in healthcare coverage. From pre-existing conditions protections to lowering prescription drug prices, we need a healthcare system that prioritizes the health of working-class families. Healthcare is a basic human right. Texas Democrats will continue to fight relentlessly for Texas families.”
