Texas Democratic Party Chair Gilberto Hinojosa issued the following statement:
“After seeing record-breaking turnout during the first day of early voting in primarily Democratic counties, Texas Republicans know they are in serious trouble. Instead of trying to earn more Texans’ votes with popular policies, like expanding healthcare access and stopping the spread of the coronavirus, Republicans did the only thing they know how to do: make it harder for Texans to vote. It didn’t work.
“Think about that. Texas Republicans are going out of their way to make it harder to vote in the worst public health crisis in a century because they want to cling to power. The only way to beat Texas Republican voter suppression is to vote in droves during early vote and on November 3. We are creating a movement. If we do the work, meet every Texan where they are, and continue to push, we will win this election and put a stop to Republican voter suppression and extremism once and for all.
