Austin, Texas — Today in Lubbock, where the coronavirus crisis is still out of control, Governor Greg Abbott updated West Texas residents about the arrival and supply line of the monoclonal immunotherapy drug, Bamlanivimab.
But hospitals in Lubbock and El Paso, and those living throughout West Texas are asking Abbott to do more.
Texas surpassed 20,000 deaths this week and has a positivity rate of 12.7%. This is significantly higher than it was in May. Instead of implementing new health and safety measures to curb the spread of the coronavirus, Abbott has surrendered to Texans getting sick and dying.
Texas Democratic Party Chair Gilberto Hinojosa issued a statement:
“Instead of implementing health and safety measures that would stop the spread of the coronavirus, Governor Abbott decided to tout a drug that doesn’t get to the root of the source: ending the crisis as we know it. Governor Abbott has completely surrendered to the coronavirus crisis. Republicans continue to mismanage the government response. We need strong leaders who will end the coronavirus crisis, not let Texans die. In every single way, every single day, Abbott has failed. It’s time for new leadership in Texas.”
