In Preparation to Turn Texas Blue, 55 New Staffers Trained to Become Campaign Managers
Austin, TX — This weekend, the Texas Democratic Party held its first-ever Staff the Movement training, a program designed to train a new generation of Texas campaign staffers to flip the Texas House in 2020.
The Texas Democratic Party has made historic investments in training, supporting, and deploying the next generation of Texas-based Democratic operatives — with an emphasis on turning Texas blue up-and-down the ballot in 2020. Staff the Movement is the first of its kind with 55 highly-skilled individuals selected to take part in this four month long academy. The participants are diverse and represent the entire state of Texas — with 71% of participants identifying as a minority and 61% identifying as female.
Texas Democratic Party Training Director Philippa Wood issued the following statement:
“Our diverse Staff the Movement program is a game-changer — it will allow us to recruit and train future leaders, and grow the Party to meet the needs of the 2020 cycle.
“We know the key to turning Texas blue in 2020 is to make sure the number of trained campaign staff matches the number of great candidates we have running campaigns. We have no time to waste. The 55 individuals selected for this program come from diverse backgrounds, are highly skilled, and eager to learn the nuts and bolts necessary to win State House campaigns across Texas.”
Texas Democratic Party Training Program Manager Nate Levin issued the following statement:
“Our first weekend of Staff the Movement couldn’t have been a greater success. Not only did we begin to train 55 individuals — who represent the diverse nature of the entire state of Texas — we saw unparalleled enthusiasm by Texas Democrats across the state while hosting terrific panelists who have been fighting to turn Texas blue.
“With these new trainees, we are making new investments in the next generation of Texas Democratic operatives. The effects of Staff the Movement will be felt for years to come.”
