AUSTIN, Texas — Texas Democratic Chair Gilberto Hinojosa issued the following statement on the ninth anniversary of the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals program (DACA):
“Nine years ago, the Obama-Biden administration announced a new immigration policy that would protect hundreds of thousands of young undocumented Americans and allow them to live their lives without fear, shame, or persecution for immigration matters that were beyond their control. Despite constant attempts from Republicans, including our most recent former president, to end the program, Democrats have defended and protected DACA and it remains a resounding success and a major step towards true comprehensive immigration reform.
“Texas Democrats stand with our DACA recipients and continue to call on Congress to work on a permanent solution for undocumented Americans. Democrats must now come together and pass permanent protections and a pathway to citizenship for every DACA recipient.”
