Austin, TX– Today, the Texas Democratic Party extends congratulations to our Project LIFT (Local Investment in the Future of Texas) candidates.
Project LIFT works with local party leaders and progressive partners to recruit, train, and support candidates – with a special focus on winning local, non-partisan races.
Congratulations to winning candidates:
Yolanda Ford, Missouri City Mayor-Elect
Chris Preston, Missouri City Position 2
Texas Democratic Party Chair Gilberto Hinojosa issued the following statement:
“The progressive movement in Texas has no signs of stopping. Missouri City changed mayors for the first time since 1994. Yolanda Ford will be the first woman and the first African-American mayor of Missouri City. Chris Preston will continue to hold his At-Large city council seat after a landslide victory.
“This past election, Texans showed us they are ready to listen to new ideas and seek new leadership. The people of Missouri City made the same choice again in this run-off. This is not a change brought about by one single candidate but by the people of Texas demanding leadership, and Texas Democrats up and down the ballot stepping up to serve.”
