The Texas Democratic Party Now Calls on Texas Republicans to Speak Out Against the Violence and Apologize for their role to incite it
AUSTIN, Texas — Despite failed challenges, false narratives and violent riots incited by Donald Trump and Texas Republicans Ted Cruz and Ken Paxton, Congress has certified the electoral college votes and confirmed Joe Biden and Kamala Harris as the legitimate winners of the 2020 presidential and vice-presidential election.
Texas Democratic Party Chair Gilberto Hinojosa issued the following statement:
“The American people have spoken, and Joe Biden will be the next president. That is how democracy works. Countless election challenges by Trump and his allies have failed. Democrats, Republicans and independents alike have agreed that our democracy must come before any party, and the United States Congress took the next step of formally ratifying the will of the American people and certifying the election results.
“Now, the people’s business must get done. It’s time for all of our leaders to come together and secure the foundations of our democracy with the John Lewis Voting Rights Act, focus on the distribution of the COVID-19 vaccine, deliver real relief to Texas families, and build our economy back better. It’s time to unite under President-elect Biden and push forward with a new emphasis on finding solutions.
“Importantly, it’s time for Texas Republicans to stop their baseless objections of Biden’s victory and start to work with Texas Democrats to restore trust in our institutions. Violent rhetoric and repeated efforts to cast doubt in our elections must end. Texans demand and deserve solutions.”
