Texas Democrats ???? #TrainTheWave ????

Austin, TX– Texas Democrats had a record number of candidates file to run for office in 2018. Our progressive movement is stronger than ever and Democrats are preparing for the best midterms of our lifetime. In order to bring the blue wave sweeping the nation to Texas, we launched #TrainTheWave.

“Since we launched #TrainTheWave, over a thousand Texans have signed up to defend our communities and promote our values,” said Philippa Wood, Texas Democratic Party Training and Programming Director, “Our trainings aim to inspire and build the capacity of Democrats across the State, so they have what they need to go back to their communities and start doing the hard work needed to run and support effective, winning campaigns”

Where have we been?

We’ve travelled over 5,350 miles and hosted events in San Antonio, McAllen, San Angelo, Tyler, Dallas, Corpus Christi, Lubbock, El Paso, and Temple. But we’ve got more road to travel! We are heading to Houston after the primaries, so stay tuned.

What are our trainings about?

During the roadshow, we ran three simultaneous trainings on the following topics:

  • “Training of Trainers” (ToTs): these trainings are aimed at volunteers and local activists who want to work with and train new volunteers in their own communities. Topics covered include : what makes a good volunteer; what makes a good volunteer leader; reviewing the curriculum for volunteer trainings; and giving presentations to new volunteers.
  • Candidate Trainings: aimed at local candidates and campaign staff, this training reviews important skills such as messaging, fundraising, and digital and grassroots organizing.
  • VAN Trainings: aimed at county and local party leaders who already have VAN access, this training aims to help participants better understand and utilize some of the more important functions that VAN has to offer.

  • [The training was useful because we were] Learning about the other people in our area and what they’ve been doing. Hearing suggestions about fun ways to keep people engaged.”
