Texas and the United States are Not Safer Under Donald Trump

From Mass Shootings, to a Rise in Violent Crime, to COVID-19, Texas Families are in More Chaos Than Ever Before

AUSTIN, Texas— Today, Vice President Joe Biden gave a speech highlighting the undeniable fact that there is more chaos now, under Donald Trump, than ever before.

Donald Trump has failed to keep our families safe — and Texans are suffering as a result. Under Trump’s presidency we’re facing the following crises: COVID-19, economic devastation, police brutality, emboldened white nationalists, a reckoning on race, mass shooting after mass shooting, and a declining faith in a bright American future.

In Trump’s America, homicides are up 26%, while violent crime dropped by 15% under the Obama-Biden Administration.

In Texas, we have experienced multiple devastating mass shootings since Trump became president: the Texas First Baptist Church shooting (26 killed, 20 injured), Santa Fe High School shooting (10 killed, 13 injured), El Paso Walmart shooting (23 killed, 25 injured), and the Midland-Odessa shooting (7 killed, 25 injured). Today is the anniversary of the Midland-Odessa shooting.

With Trump as president and Abbott as governor we have seen:

Texans, ask yourself: Do you feel safer under Donald Trump and Greg Abbott?

Texas Democratic Party Communications Director Abhi Rahman issued the following statement:

“For far too long Republican politicians, especially those in Texas, have stoked fears, deepened racial divides, and politically profited from hatred and violence. Under Donald Trump, our divisions have gotten even worse. We must put an end to Trump’s chaos, once and for all. Ask yourself, do you feel safer today than you did four years ago? For most Texas families, the answer is a resounding no.

“We need Joe Biden to restore calm and clear-headed leadership to the White House.”
