RELEASE: Trump and Cornyn Continue to Lie About Protecting Pre-Existing Conditions

Austin, TX — Yesterday, on Twitter, Donald Trump falsely claimed that he “saved” pre-existing conditions, which was then broadly skewered by every fact-checker in America.

Where did Donald Trump get inspiration for this bald-faced lie?

Look no further than vulnerable Texas Republican Senator John Cornyn, known as Affordable Care Repeal’s “Top Salesman.”

Last year, Cornyn was widely panned for his claim that Democrats “refused to join Republicans in guaranteeing coverage for pre-existing conditions”

Some headlines in response to Cornyn’s lie include:

“John Cornyn Thinks You are Stupider Than a Slab of Meat”

“Senator Cornyn Should Apologize to People with Pre-Existing Conditions for His Shameful Lie”

“John Cornyn Makes the False Claim that Democrats Won’t ‘Join Republicans in Guaranteeing Coverage for Pre-Existing Conditions”

“John Cornyn’s rhetoric on health care takes a ridiculous turn”

Is John Cornyn living in a parallel universe or is he a pathological liar?

Cornyn votes for junk health care plans that don’t cover pre-existing conditions

Before the Affordable Care Act, insurance companies could discriminate against people with pre-existing conditions.

Cornyn has tried to repeal Obamacare more than 70 times.

More than 11,000,000 Texans have pre-existing conditions and cannot be discriminated against because of the Affordable Care Act, which John Cornyn remains adamantly opposed to.

Texas Democratic Party Communications Director Abhi Rahman issued the following statement:

“Donald Trump and John ‘Obamacare Repeal’s Top Salesman’ Cornyn are putting life-saving care out of reach for millions who desperately need it. Trump’s claim that he protected pre-existing conditions is a big, fat lie.

“John Cornyn is right there with Trump. After attempting to repeal Obamacare more than 70 times, Texans know exactly where John Cornyn stands on preserving and protecting their healthcare. Texas already ranks dead last in healthcare coverage. Under the healthcare disaster proposed by Trump and Cornyn, millions more would lose protections.

“We should build on the progress made with the Affordable Care Act and take bold action towards a universal healthcare system. Texas Democrats look forward to expanding healthcare access after we defeat Trump and Cornyn in November.”
