ICYMI: Texas Ranks As Third Worst State in Response to Coronavirus

AUSTIN, TX — As states around the country are taking aggressive steps to control the coronavirus outbreak, Governor Greg Abbott’s response at the state level continues to lag. In fact, new reports rank Texas close to the bottom in responding to the pandemic.

Yesterday, WalletHub released its report on the Most Aggressive States Against the Coronavirus — and Texas comes in 49th out of 51.

For more on Texas Republicans’ ineffectual statewide response to the coronavirus see below:

WalletHub: “Texas ranks last in ‘prevention and containment’”

Rice-Kinder Institute: “The state ranks last in the nation in tested cases of COVID-19 per capita and 48th in total public health emergency preparedness funding per capita.”

Texas Signal: “On the issue of elections, Abbott doesn’t even seem to know whether he has the authority to make changes to municipal elections.”

Dallas Morning News: “While some governors have imposed strict restrictions during the COVID-19 outbreak, Gov. Greg Abbott has left much of the decision-making to mayors, county leaders and elected school boards.”

NBC5 DFW: “Dallas County Judge Clay Jenkins is urging Texas Gov. Greg Abbott to expand the measure statewide to combat the spread of COVID-19 … Jenkins said statewide implementation was necessary so that people simply didn’t cross county lines to congregate, potentially carrying the virus with them.”
