ICYMI: Texas Democrats Push Back Against Trump And Paxton’s ACA Sabotage Attempts, Fight to Protect Texans Health Care

AUSTIN, TX – Fresh from hearings for Texas v. United States, a lawsuit led by indicted Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton, Texas Democrats gathered last Friday to warn Texans of the devastating consequences if the Affordable Care Act is struck down.

The health care of tens of millions of Americans is on the line. Trump, Paxton and Republicans are trying to do in the courts what they failed to do in Congress: repeal our entire health care law.

Texas Democrats believe health care is a right for everyone, not a privilege for a few. While Republicans look to take away and sabotage America’s health care, Democrats are fighting to protect and expand health care for all.

Democrats say if Paxton wins, it would send the Texas GOP into a tailspin.

“This will be an issue to flip the Texas House, this will be an issue to expand the U.S. House majority, this will be an issue to take out (Republican U.S. Sen.) John Cornyn and this will be an issue to win Texas for the presidency,” said Manny Garcia, executive director of the Texas Democratic Party.

With health care back in the news, it is a ripe opportunity for Democrats to look at Sen. John Cornyn’s record on health care.

“Once known as healthcare repeal’s ‘top salesman,’ Cornyn now has a choice to make: does he stand with the millions of Texans threatened to lose their protections for their pre-existing conditions or does he stand with pharmaceutical and insurance industry donors who have bankrolled his campaigns to the tune of almost $1.7 million?” the Texas Democratic Party said in a statement.

“My insurance company’s message to people like me and millions of other Texas was that our lives was not worth the expense,” said Gidseg.

She says that without the Affordable Care Act, she wouldn’t have been able to pay for her medication that she desperately needs.
