Austin, TX — Yesterday, Texas Republican AG Ken Paxton made headlines by filing yet another lawsuit that would eliminate the Affordable Care Act.
Texas Democratic Party Deputy Executive Director Manny Garcia issued the following statement:
“This another savage attempt from Republican Ken Paxton to rip healthcare away from Texans. The fact is, the Affordable Care Act has reduced our uninsured rate and made it more affordable for folks to visit a doctor. Texas Democrats believe healthcare is a right. Instead of Republicans filing more lawsuits, sabotaging the ACA, and spinning chaos into the insurance markets, they should work with Democrats to build on the progress made.
“Texans are demanding change and it’s time we elect Texas Democrat Justin Nelson to serve the people of Texas as their top lawyer.”
- “A coalition of 20 U.S. states sued the federal government on Monday over Obamacare, claiming the law was no longer constitutional after the repeal last year of its requirement that people have health insurance or pay a fine.
- “Led by Texas Attorney General Ken Paxton and Wisconsin Attorney General Brad Schimel, the lawsuit said that without the individual mandate, which was eliminated as part of the Republican tax law signed by President Donald Trump in December, Obamacare was unlawful.”
