BREAKING: Total Turnout Eclipses 2 Million Texas Democratic Primary Voters, Higher than Republican Turnout

Austin, TX –– Texas’ Secretary of State election results show turnout in the Democratic Primary topped 2 million voters, making total turnout higher than that of Texans who cast a Republican ballot of the 99.5% of the Democratic precincts reporting and 99.6% of the Republican precincts that have reported.

DEM: 2,076,046 votes (99.5% reporting)

REP: 2,008,385 votes (99.6% reporting)

This shatters the robust turnout in 2016 and proves Texas Democrats are fired up and ready to win in November.

** Election results as of March 5, 2020 at 8:00 AM CT. Final vote totals will be certified on March 13, 2020 at 12:00 PM. **

Texas Democratic Party Executive Director Manny Garcia issued the following statement:

“Turnout in the 2020 Democratic primary shattered our expectations with over 2 million Texans making their voices be heard. We had more ballots cast than Texas Republicans in the Texas Primary. The momentum is clearly on our side. The people of Texas are standing up and fighting for quality healthcare, strong neighborhood schools, and an economy that works for all. Texas is the biggest battleground state in the country. The energy among Texas Democrats will carry us to victory up and down the ballot in November.”
