BREAKING: The Texas Democratic Party Congratulates Senators-elect Jon Ossoff and Reverend Raphael Warnock on their Victory in Georgia

Austin, TX — The Texas Democratic Party applauds Senators-elect Jon Ossoff and Reverend Raphael Warnock. During these runoff elections, Georgians voted for jobs, healthcare, and justice for all and in doing so, voted for a Democratic majority in the U.S Senate.

Thanks to the decades of organizing work in predominantly black and brown communities, the Democratic Party of Georgia, and progressive organizations across the state, guided by leaders like Stacey Abrams, Georgia turned blue in 2020. With a similar margin of defeat of Georgia in 2016 and Texas in 2020, Texas can continue to look to Georgia as a blueprint for how to flip our state and overcome Republican-led voter suppression.

The Texas Democratic Party is proud to have aided the efforts of Ossoff and Warnock by lending Texas talent to help raise over $1 million for Georgia Democrats, lending staff and support for voter protection efforts, and contributed staff and volunteers for the organizing efforts of the campaigns and the Georgia Democratic Party. Additionally, Texas Democratic Party Primary and Special Projects Director Glen Maxey organized dozens of Texas College Democrats and other Texas Democratic activists to knock on doors in urban and rural areas across Georgia.

Texas Democratic Party Chair Gilberto Hinojosa released the following statement:

“The results of the Georgia runoff elections have given hope to Democrats across the country. This was a well-earned victory, and couldn’t have been accomplished without the countless organizers, volunteers, activists, community leaders, and Georgia Democrats who fought for a Democratic victory. Texas Democrats are proud to have aided those efforts by lending staff to help raise over $1 million for Georgia Democrats, aiding voter protection efforts, and recruiting volunteers and operatives in the effort to organize Georgia voters.

“The new South is here. Similar to Georgia in 2016, Texas finished within a 5.5% margin. With smart investments and hard work in every corner of our great state, Texas can become the next Georgia by 2024. The persistence and dedication exhibited by Georgians have given us hope that a blue Texas is around the corner.

“We congratulate both Senators-elect Jon Ossoff and Rev. Raphael Warnock for running inspiring, genuine campaigns. We look forward to celebrating the accomplishments and solutions for everyday folks of a Democratic Senate, House, and White House.”
