BREAKING: SCOTUS Rejects Review of Same-Sex Benefits Case by City of Houston

Austin, TX –According to Alexa Ura, from the Texas Tribune, “The U.S. Supreme Court has announced it would not review a June decision by the Texas Supreme Court that ruled that the legalization of same-sex marriage does not fully address the right to marriage benefits….” [Texas Tribune, December 4, 2017]

Texas Democratic Party Chair Gilberto Hinojosa issued the following statement:

“America should be a place where your destiny is not predetermined by who you love, where you come from, and what you look like.  Every single couple should have the same right to participate in the institution of marriage.

“The High Court just made it harder for so many folks to achieve the American Dream. This decision rejects the very ideals this nation was founded on and allows discrimination against same-sex couples to fester.

“Texas Democrats are committed to the equal treatment of all Americans, including equal access to all marriage benefits, and we will not stop fighting until that is the case.”
